You've Got Mail!
Keeping up in the design world can be a bit of a challenge at times. Trends are always shifting. New software changes the way we work. The pace at which new technology forces us to adapt our work is only ever increasing. At times it can seem that what was relevant yesterday now looks dated.
So, how do you keep up with the competition in this ever-changing landscape?
For me, the answer is newsletters. Signing up to receive specific newsletters is an easy way to stay up to date on what’s happening in design. It’s nice to let someone else do the heavy lifting when it comes to filtering out the noise in our society of social media oversaturation. Newsletters do just that. They’ll help you figure out what’s actually important, leaving you with time to adjust your work accordingly and to continue to produce great work.
Here are the design newsletters I subscribe to:
AIGA Eye On Design – If you’re looking for a deep dive into design trends, agency tours, and interviews with the design world’s movers and shakers, go no farther. This is a bit of a longer read, but it only comes weekly so you won’t get overwhelmed or sidetracked. If you’re looking for inspiration, this is the email to get!
Communications Arts Daily Newsletter – Looking for great design, thought-provoking articles, and a quick general update? This is the newsletter for you! It’s daily, so it’s not overwhelming in the quantity of its content – just a quick read will do. Sign up using the link in the top right corner of their website.
Design Milk Weekly Digest – Who says these newsletters have to relate just to graphic design? This is your newsletter for a weekly exploration of what’s happening in architecture, art, industrial design, interior design, technology, and product design. Inspiration can come from a variety of places, after all. (They also have a daily version, if you prefer constant updates.) Plus, they have great gift recommendations for the designers in your life ;)
Is there anything I missed? Have any suggestions as to what I should add to my inbox? Leave a comment and let me know what to follow next!
